Artist's Statement

This piece revisits the painterly background. This time pieces of silk georgette were dyed with the gauze, so that their colour is close to that of the ground. Felted and applied, they become windows through which surprise flashes of bright red colour are seen. When you are in the Australian bush, which tends to have a very blue-green colour especially at a distance, you can suddenly become aware of brilliant flashes of colours - of birds never quite seen. You are unsure of your vision. However, the feeling of having witnessed something wonderful remains with you.
